Welcome to my blog.
My name is Saara Jantunen. I am a researcher, infowar expert and an author based in Helsinki, Finland. I originally started out as a linguist and completed my Bachelor’s degree studying English and linguistics in the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. After returning to Finland and doing my conscript service, I continued with my Master’s dissertation in the University of Helsinki. This is when I was drawn to researching how war is represented and talked about for and via the media, and started writing about what is now called strategic communication. The war was raging in Iraq and the press briefings in the Pentagon were daily, so I wasn’t short of material. On the side I worked full time as a teacher.
I completed my doctoral dissertation on leadership and strategic communication in the Finnish National Defence University in 2013 and now work as a full-time researcher. I still teach and lecture, whenever I find the time to.
In October 2015 I published a book called “Infosota” (“Infowar”).
In this blog you will find articles and commentaries that discuss many of the themes of the book. The focus is on communication, information warfare and how they are talked about.
